As the official Hair and Make-up sponsor of the MYER Runway Weekend, TACB students were behind-the-scenes creating the looks for the runway shows over two days. Showcasing the new look collections for a stable of Myer-housed fashion labels, the event was staged in Pitt St Mall, Sydney CBD, with a huge crowd turning out to catch a glimpse of what the Spring/Summer 2016 fashion collections have in store for shoppers.
Some of our students were also asked to perform the hair and make-up services for singer Bonnie Anderson, and magazine editors such as Kellie Hush (Editor in Chief, Harper’s BAZAAR) and Justine Cullen (Editor in Chief, ELLE Australia), rubbing shoulders with the likes of Ksenija Lukich and Jennifer Hawkins backstage!
The make-up style chosen by the Head Stylist was a classically ‘fashion’ look; dewy, flawless skin, lightly contoured bronzed eyes and a nude floating lip. Overseen by our talented Make-up trainers, TACB students used a clear gloss over the top of shimmery highlighter along the cheekbones to throw a radiant shine under the lights of the catwalk; lips were natural, with product applied to the centre of the lips and blended out to create a soft yet defined look.
The focus for Hair was sleek and shiny; for Friday’s show, a slick low bun with a gelled side part was sprayed liberally with shine spray. The Head Stylist for the show mixed it up on Saturday, with different styles that complemented the style of each featured designer, with looks varying from a sleek pony-tail, to a high top-knot and a low bun.
Working in one of the Bauer Media headquarters studios, TACB students experienced firsthand what goes on behind the scenes at a runway show, from setting up and early morning briefings (including a 5.45am start!) to the mad rush to finalise the models in the last 30 minutes. Communication and a clear head were key to getting the models’ looks completed; despite the frantic energy backstage, all models were ready to be transported from Bauer offices to the runway show in Pitt St mall in time!
Those who worked on editors were in the thick of it backstage in Pitt St, amid the hustle and bustle of a very small room, and were also responsible for models’ touch-ups before they walked the runway, literally moisturising models’ legs, spraying stray strands back into place and re-touching gloss along sculpted cheekbones.
The show programme itself was all about embracing the coming warmer months, with insider fashion info from Danielle Cartisano (Bookings and Style Editor at ELLE Australia), Mattie Cronan (Style Director at The Australian Women’s Weekly) and Charlotta Backlund (Senior Fashion Editor of Cosmpolitan Australia), plus Q&As with the always flawless Jennifer Hawkins (hosted by Kellie Hush and Justine Cullen).
TACB were thrilled to be a part of the event, and are exceptionally proud of our talented hair and make-up students who delivered amazing results with a brilliant attitude – we can’t wait for MYER Runway Weekend 2017!
