Which Eyeliner for Which Look?

One of the things we love most about make-up is the fact that there are no boundaries – you can experiment with any product to create a look that works for you.

Having said that, it can be quite daunting when it comes to knowing what to buy. There are endless options to choose from on the market and they can start to sound the same after a while.

So we’re breaking it down for you; five different products to achieve five different looks.

How simple is that?

The Kitten Eye:

Much like its grown-up version of the cat-eye, the kitten eye is a barely there, fine wing which extends just beyond the lash line itself. It’s the ultimate fine liner look and we recommend a super fine liquid liner to achieve it. Try the YSL Baby Doll Liquid Liner if you’re happy to splurge!

The Feline Flick:

Otherwise known as the cat-eye; this is the perfect look to add some drama. You can make it as long and as fierce as you like but to achieve that ultra-sleek point we suggest opting for a felt tip liquid liner. Eyeliner newbies will appreciate how simple this product is to use and the fine tip of the pen creates a perfect point. We love the Make Up For Ever Graphic Liner, but if you’re looking for a drugstore alternative, try the L’Oréal SuperLiner Perfect Slim.

The Defined Lash:

For those who are looking to just add a bit of ‘something’ to their eyes without going OTT, a simple pencil does the trick! Eye pencils are easily applied along and into the lash line to give the impression of volume and help to define the eyes without adding to much drama. Our top pick is the Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Waterproof as it goes the distance – whether it be out to lunch or during a gym session!

The Smoky Eye:

The smoky eye will never go out of style as it’s such an easy way to provide some drama to your look! All you need is a kohl pencil in the colour of your choice. Start by tight-lining your top and bottom lash line, then line the outer lash lines as well. Using a smudging brush, blend the liner out away from the lashes. You may need to go back in with the pencil a second time to add depth to the lashes once again. One of our fave go-to pencils is the Rock’N’Roll Liquid Pencil from Charlotte Tilbury but if you’re on a budget you can opt for the Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner.

The Graphic Liner:

For those of you who love dramatic look such as a heavy winged liner, we suggest using a gel liner. These pots of product make it easy to create a wing and (usually) set in place well. Some of our fave gel liners are the Maybelline EyeStudio Lasting Drama Gel Pot Liner and the Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner.

These are simply guidelines and many of the looks above can be achieve with most eyeliner options! Don’t ever feel like there’s only one ‘right’ way to do your make-up, but if you’re feeling lost we’re here to help!
